I am excited to run for re-election to the Westminster City Council this November. I couldn’t be more honored and proud to be serving our beautiful city as your City Councillor.
I was born in Tallahassee, Florida because my parents attended University there, and since my mother wanted to make sure that I got to know our grandparents, I spent my childhood in Venezuela. When I was fourteen years old my father passed away and my mother began to worry about our safety in Venezuela. After finishing high school I moved back to our beautiful country as an exchange student attending one year of high school in Ohio. My mother wanted to make sure that each of her children would be able to have opportunities and a good quality of life. She has made sure that all of her children attended college, my brother at University of Michigan, and my sister at Colorado State University.
I graduated with a degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University. My experiences and struggles of losing my father at a young age and being the first one in my family to move back home to the United States made me not only grow up very quickly, but also taught me that with hard work, determination and the right support system you can accomplish anything you set your mind to do.
The years I spent in Venezuela taught me to really appreciate the freedoms that we have as Americans, and to not take them for granted. This sense of gratitude is why giving back to my community is very important to me. For the last decade, I have worked with non-profit advocacy organizations to increase civic participation in Colorado. I developed youth civic engagement programs to engage young women in their communities; I have worked with diverse communities to help them integrate and be fully engaged citizens and involved business owners on public policy issues.
My husband Salvador and I opened our company in 2011. Our company works with environmental friendly manufacturing products and construction equipment. As a business owner, I have been able to experience first hand the hardships, challenges and successes that go with owning a business. From the day-to-day operations, to sales calls and the struggles of waiting for to get paid. Supporting businesses, especially business grown right here at home, is priority for me.
